Though it’s off on the East Side of Manhattan, Murray Hill feels centrally located to the rest of the city, thanks to the accessibility afforded by Grand Central Station, which at more than a century old, maintains its beautiful 19th century architecture. In keeping with the pace of Manhattan’s midtown, Murray Hill has a vibrant nightlife along its main corridors, and during the day, a lively pace takes hold. Still, its residential areas are decidedly more sedate, whether they’re given to old townhouses or new highrises. Comfortably situated on the East River, Murray Hill is still within walking distance to some of the city’s best public amenities, like Bryant Park and the New York Public Library’s Main Branch, and because of its relative proximity to Turtle Bay and the United Nations, a number of diplomatic missions and internationally-oriented cultural institutions may be found in the area.
